koans

A Kōan is a brief anecdote or statement from the Chinese Chan or Japanese Zen Buddhism tradition, typically illustrating an exemplary action or remark of a Zen master—rarely that of a Zen student. Kōans are absurd, enigmatic, surprising, or unconventional sayings designed to disrupt conditioned thinking and, if possible, eliminate it, allowing for a state of mental emptiness to emerge.

The digital works in this series were created during the Covid-19 lockdowns in April 2020. They are my personally designed kōans, emerging from my Zazen (Zen meditation) practice, and have become a lifelong companion in my spiritual journey.
