The future is blocked, the future has passed, the future stands still. Today's UFOs are yesterday's UFOs—bulky, helmet-like steel discs that only reach as far as the Moon: heavy, slow, and useless. The future is eerie, the future is a ruin, a black shadow. The future is an abandoned place, an empty shell, an oppressive absence, a grim zombie.
The image series Haunebu 2 explores the phenomenon of Nazi esotericism and ufology, translating it into contemporary political currents. The simple, geometrically abstract depictions of black UFOs on a white background symbolize regression: the allure of simplistic explanations, the longing for authoritarian worldviews, and the resurgence of revisionist, neoconservative, and antifeminist ideologies. The series alludes to the revival of anti-democratic movements that glorify the past and replace complexity with reductionist thinking. In this way, the Haunebu myths become a symbol of dangerous regression.
The paintings are created using acrylic on canvas and are presented on custom-made frames in a 40 × 50 cm format.
