As part of the SLASH/Transition Artist Residency in September 2024 in Innsbruck, Georgian sound artist Giorgi Koberidze worked on his project Murmur – Immersing in the (Silent) Voices of Change. This work explored the subtle details that are often lost during urban transformation processes. During this residency, a close collaboration developed between Giorgi Koberidze, Bertram Schrettl and me, in which we jointly created ceramic bells. These bells became an integral part of Koberidze's installation, symbolizing the loss of traditions and art in times of change. Our cooperation combined different artistic approaches, resulting in a unique fusion of sound and form.
The results of this collaboration were presented on September 26, 2024, as part of the Positive Futures Festival in Halle 6 of the Quartier St. Bartlmä. The concert for four ceramic bells combined field recordings—such as the rustling of a tree in St. Bartlmä, recordings of musicians at a conservatory, and the accidental shattering of glass—with the specific sound qualities of the bells. This composition invited visitors to experience the subtle details of urban transformation acoustically.
The residency was organized by openspace.innsbruck as part of the SLASH/Transition EU project, which explores the role of sound artists in changing urban spaces.
